Pelinus Beanal and Elias Beanal of PT. Wisata Puncak Nemangkawi (PT. WPN) have successfully conquered Puncak Nemangkawi, Indonesia’s highest peak, at an altitude of 4,884 metres above sea level (masl).

On the majestic summit, the two, full of nationalist spirit, raised the Red-and-White flag of Indonesia together with photographs of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, as a symbol of love for the homeland and of the pride of Mimika’s Indigenous people.

The Director of PT. Wisata Puncak Nemangkawi, Vinsen Beanal, expressed his appreciation and pride in the achievement.

“As Director of PT. Wisata Puncak Nemangkawi, I extend my deepest appreciation to the whole team who, with extraordinary spirit, dedication and effort, succeeded in reaching Puncak Nemangkawi and raising the company flag at 4,884 masl.

This achievement is not only a symbol of a successful climb, but also an important part of the company’s history — proof of our commitment to developing nature tourism based on local wisdom and a spirit of togetherness,” Vinsen Beanal told Salam Papua on Saturday (1/11/2025).

The success of this expedition is a source of special pride for the climbers and for the Indigenous customary-rights holders who are part of the management of PT. WPN. The moment reflects the spirit of self-reliance and collaboration of Indigenous communities in managing the nature tourism potential of their own territory.

The expedition received full support from the Chair of Commission II of the Mimika Regency DPRD, Dolfin Beanal, who also expressed high appreciation for the team’s efforts.

“This success is concrete proof that when Indigenous communities are given space to manage their own natural potential, the results can be extraordinary. I hope activities like this can inspire young Papuans to love and protect their nature,” said Dolfin Beanal.

Meanwhile, Pelinus Beanal, one of the climbers who conquered the summit, expressed his pride at being able to plant the Red-and-White flag on the highest rooftop of Indonesia.

“We are very proud to have raised the Red-and-White flag on Puncak Nemangkawi. This is not only an expression of love for our homeland, but also our tribute to the Indigenous people who own this mountain,” he said.

Going forward, PT. Wisata Puncak Nemangkawi is committed to developing the Puncak Nemangkawi area as a sustainable nature tourism destination that prioritises environmental conservation, the empowerment of Indigenous communities, and local wisdom.

Closing his remarks, Dolfin Beanal, a young politician from the Gerindra Party, thanked everyone who supported this historic expedition.

“We thank the Mimika Regency Government, the Lorentz National Park Office, the Mimika Police, Kapiyau Air Force Base, Basarnas and the Immigration Office for their full support, which allowed this climb to be carried out successfully,” he concluded.
